Requirements
Position Summary
Nimera Health is seeking newly credentialed or experienced Oncology Data Specialists (ODS-C) to support hospital-based, health system, and federal cancer registry programs. This remote position is responsible for casefinding, abstraction, coding, staging, quality review, and data validation activities in accordance with national cancer registry standards.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to maintaining high levels of quality, accuracy, and productivity while supporting client-specific requirements.
Essential Responsibilities
- Perform cancer casefinding activities utilizing established registry guidelines and reporting requirements
- Abstract cancer cases from electronic medical records in accordance with NAACCR, CoC, SEER, and state registry standards
- Apply current Solid Tumor Rules, Hematopoietic & Lymphoid Neoplasm Database rules, AJCC staging, SSDI, EOD, and treatment coding requirements
- Review medical records for completeness, accuracy, and data integrity
- Meet established quality and productivity standards
- Participate in quality assurance reviews and corrective action activities as needed
- Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to client-specific workflows and procedures
- Collaborate effectively with internal teams, quality reviewers, and client stakeholders
- Participate in continuing education and maintain current knowledge of industry standards and regulatory changes
Minimum Qualifications
- Current Oncology Data Specialist (ODS-C) credential required
- Minimum of 1 years of recent cancer registry abstraction experience preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of NAACCR Standards
- Commission on Cancer (CoC) Standards
- Solid Tumor Rules
- AJCC Staging
- SSDI and EOD
- ICD-O Coding
- Experience abstracting from electronic medical records
Strong analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with federal cancer registry programs (VA, DoD, or other government projects)
Experience with CRStar, Metriq, OncoLog, OncoTraX, ORIS or other registry software
Experience with ViSTA, Epic, Cerner, Meditech, Aria, or other oncology EMR systems
Quality review or auditing experience
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Cancer Registry Management, Nursing, or a related healthcare field
