THE GIFT from T. Denny Sanford of $400 million dollars will drive our ability to become a medical research organization on par with Johns Hopkins; to obtain the caliber of excellence in medical education programs such as the Mayo Clinic; and to be recognized for world class pediatric patient care and research on the level of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

THE SANFORD PROJECT is to focus on a single, pressing healthcare issue and establish a world-class research team to achieve significant progress within a reasonable time period. Through an extensive selection process, Sanford Health has chosen to attack type 1 diabetes by focusing on beta cell regeneration.

Mr. Denny Sanford of Sioux Falls, South Dakota is donating $20 million to create the Sanford Children’s Health Research Center at the Burnham Institute for Medical Research in La Jolla, California.   In Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Sanford Health will also develop a Sanford Children’s Health Research Center facility.  The two locations will share resources, findings and technology in order t
to conquer childhood diseases.
